At Rishikesh Yoga Institute, each day begins with Shatkarma, the traditional yogic detoxification practices designed to purify the body from within. Shatkarmaβ€”also known as Sat Karmaβ€”focuses on internal cleansing and prepares the body and mind for deeper yogic practices.

Our experienced teachers guide students step by step, explaining how to perform each cleansing technique safely, along with its purpose, benefits, and precautions. With years of practical teaching experience, our instructors make Shatkarma approachable and easy to understand, even for first-time practitioners.

Jal Neti – Jal Neti is a nasal cleansing technique using warm saline water and a neti pot, which is provided by the school. This practice helps clear nasal passages, improves breathing, and removes blockages caused by dust, pollution, or allergies.

Sutra Neti – Sutra Neti is a deeper nasal cleansing practice. Beginners are guided using a soft rubber catheter, while advanced practitioners may use a cotton thread. This technique strengthens the nasal passages and enhances respiratory health.

Trataka – Trataka is an eye-cleansing and concentration practice. Students learn both traditional techniques to improve eye health, focus, and mental clarity while preparing the mind for meditation.

Kapalbhati – Kapalbhati means β€œskull shining” and is both a cleansing technique and a pranayama practice. It supports digestive health, helps maintain healthy body weight, and significantly improves lung capacity and breathing power.

Kunjal (Vaman Dhauti) – Kunjal, also known as Vaman Dhauti, is an advanced abdominal cleansing practice taught during the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. Under expert supervision, students experience a deep sense of lightness, clarity, and improved digestive health.

Vinyasa Flow is a dynamic style of yoga that synchronises breath with movement. At Rishikesh Yoga Institute, students receive a clear and structured introduction to Vinyasa Flow, including its origins and how it differs from general Vinyasa practice.

Our training explores what makes Vinyasa Flow unique compared to other yoga styles and why it requires precision, awareness, and intelligent sequencing. Teachers learn how to design safe and effective sequences, adapt class structures, and understand why Vinyasa Flow can be challenging to teachβ€”and how to teach it confidently.

Special focus is given to:

  • Intelligent sequencing and class structure
  • Creating balanced and creative Vinyasa classes
  • Time management during teaching
  • Identifying and correcting habitual misalignment in asanas

Alignment is a core pillar of safe and effective yoga practice. Our alignment training helps students understand why correct alignment matters and how it prevents injuries while enhancing long-term practice.

Students learn how yoga can support and improve:

  • Flat feet and high arches
  • Knock knees and bow legs
  • Poor posture and spinal imbalance

We cover the ideal alignment for standing, sitting, resting, and sleeping postures, ensuring holistic body awareness beyond the mat.

Detailed alignment is taught for:

  • Sun Salutation in Hatha Yoga and Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga
  • Ashtanga Primary Series, including the finishing sequence

Students also learn how to use yoga props effectively to support alignment, accessibility, and safe progression for different body types.

Beyond physical practice, Rishikesh Yoga Institute focuses on developing confident, responsible yoga teachers. Students learn how to observe bodies, offer safe adjustments, communicate clearly, and guide students with awareness and compassion.

This integrated approach builds strong teaching foundations, helping future yoga teachers lead classes with confidence, authenticity, and respect for traditional yogic wisdom.
